i'm working footage shot in 1080i60 on fcp 5.1 , damn slow import. i'm talking importing 3 min. clip browser timeline taking on 10 min. moving clips around , overlaying them on top of other causes whole thing re-render , have wait additional 10-15 min that. i've never worked hd footage before wonder, normal?
if is, how guys, work hd footage living, cope long render times? did miss something? settings issue perhaps? don't want set on unlimited rt because gets choppy. on easy setup i've set project "hdv - 1080i60." figured follows because that's footage is.
have 5 hours of hd footage edit , @ rate think i'd need couple of weeks. lol...![]()
ok- 1st: that's hefty peice of hd play with. potent , tax 15'' powerbook, or mac matter... i'll try helping...
no- sequence settings not match clip settings.
right click (or control click) clip in browswer , menu pop up. go item properties > format. write down clip's codec , other details.
now, click anywhere in timeline , go top toolbar > sequence > sequence settings (i'm going off memory here may not exact). try setting sequence settings match hd clip best can (1080i / 59.98? / 60i? / ccir 601 instead of square pixel? - experiment until can drop clip in timeline without requiring render. item properties of clip should give details need.
i still think setting may off causes render bar appear. regardless, people know using sort of raid array push hd video. 5400 internal drive choke , fw 800 drives won't dramatically better. have 1 terabite sata raid purchases macgurus.com. 4 7200rpm drives raided 1 harddrive, sata card going express34 slot, giving me throughput beyond capability of internal sata (my internal 7200). raid , card cost me around $900, , see setup various low budget shows coming history channel , animal planet (except have 8 drive enclosures , mac pros, outperform 4 bay enclosures on macbook pro.)
anywho, if find right setting , works, sweet. no raid needed. if don't find right setting or , it's still slow, here's last option: recompressing clips easier handled. select clips in browser and
go file>media manager, , choose : recompress in options. gives choice of different codecs recompress to. there's way custom build own, try looks though take less space (there's space comparison bar make easy you). don't pal or different frame rate or different aspect ratio , you'll fine.
luck! of off memory so- let me know if have issues.
