XP to OSX malfunction?

hey,

when switch osx xp , download net anywhere on osx hd. it's icon not appear, when search found, yet still doesn't appear. if select file being downloaded in download manager or azureus, right click , choose reveal in finder works make file appear.

also, repairing permissions seems remedy problem. however, pain in butt. have other solutions? or have repair permissions every time switch osx xp?

i've had same problem in past, drove me insane. never figured out fixed (possibly fsck in single-user mode).

good evening , first post =) i'll try start out on right foot , sound half-way intelligent. acquired gimped powerbook g4 1 of our 'daughter' companies. laptop works fine when using a/c adapter. if unplug a/c adapter while power on, screen/keyboard lights go off. however, hard drive still spinning. if plug a/c adapter in, lcd backlight comes on, not display on screen. have hold power button down few seconds power down completely. upon turning on, works fine again. sound battery issue or motherboard problem? have checked battery serial number against recall list , 1 supposably good. in advance!   to me sounds hardware (or possibly software) problem. run permissions repair (using disc utility) , make sure software date (use software update check). fresh install of osx may solve too, had similar problem ibook , sorted it, may motherboard issue; if have hardware test disc, run...
