Mac keeps stuttering, crapping out, with Parallels...

hello all, i've got mbp, 2.16 c2d model. 1ghz of ram, 128mb video card, more capable of running os x, web development software (we're talking basic text wrangler , fetch right now), , linux under parallels. finished updating linux, quit parallels.. opened web stuff work on site i'm doing, opened parallels again xp testing, , *boom*.

system starts bogging down on me, , parallels starts take nose dive (which seems lot when have open, close it, , try open app again). time, won't let me quit it, or open force quit.. or open activity monitor (i open , crashes right away).

normally, i'd restart because fixes everything, i'm @ end of downloading live cd, , don't wanna have wait few hours.. try opening istat nano in dashboard.. goes screwy , whenever try add widget, none appear.. whenever click on finder icon in dock, new flight tracker widget appear on desktop (not dashboard!).

well, got activity monitor opened, killed parallels, killed dock, , things went normal.. except pmtool using ~75% of cpu power , making else sluggish, took chance , quit activity monitor , reopened it.. right everything's fine.

gut parallels, when doesn't shut down properly, windowserver, causing vram it's using balloon >3gig's, , doing process doesn't want parallels restart again..

obvious answer reboot, (which i'll in 5 minutes when download complete) hate having whenever parallels mucks on me. there can keep computer sane when try run parallels, or have put with?

edit: tried opening parallels again, , froze whole computer. key combos didn't work, , screen frozen.. itunes kept playing though ;)

, possibly related, not, every time reboot, have folder called "recovered items" in trash can.. know that's about?

if you've got 1gb of ram (i assume typo), @ least part of issue; parallels job, isn't you'd call ram efficient, , in limited experience 2gb eats lot.

sounds maybe thrashing part of issue? can drag things crawl really, quickly. if virtual machine trying reserve of available physical ram itself, cause symptoms you're describing.

, i've noticed that, saw, seems not quit properly, leaving running in background shouldn't be.

sticking gig of ram in may clear issues, or maybe try cranking amount of ram available virtual machine way down bare minimum?

"recovered items" folder normal; if there's improperly cleaned-up stuff left sitting in /tmp directory (i think), gets stuck folder after reboot. shows if needed kill misbehaving or forced restart.

know see periodically, , it's 99.9% fine delete without checking, here's official apple document on topic:
