here dilemma, want use mac mini dedicated media server. right have 2 750gb hard drives, both reasonably full, meaning have buy third external hdd. mini has 4 usb ports on back. there way plug multiple external hdds multiple usb ports , have them act 1 huge hdd?
reason need because plan keep in itunes , leave open/running. in order have have 1 itunes library , locate in 1 place, not 4 different library folders spread out on 4 different hdds.
can me this, or recommend better way it?
you can in disk utility setting raid array, honest you'd better off buying external raid enclosure , mounting drives in there. try , use raid5 if possible. if volume spans multiple disks on normal raid0 array , 1 of them fails lose entire volume. on raid5 can lose disk , data remains intact, means can rebuild array replacing faulty drive.
downside of raid5 need minimum of 3 disks , 1 of them wasted spacewise. 3 750gb disks give 1.5tb, not 2.25tb. need data off disks before creating array.
