Disk Utility-Volume needs repair?

i ran disk utility , got message came this

repair disk grayed out. plz.
 

you cannot repair system volume when have booted off same volume. need boot install dvd came mac , launch disk utility after having booted off dvd. allow run repair on system volume.

check section starts "try disk utility" on this apple knowledge base article.
