Accelerometer Issues?

so basically, doesn't work. when tilt ipod touch on it's side, there huge delay on switching coverflow mode (or turning web page, depending on i'm doing) , other times doesn't work @ all.

however, works fine. have tried restoring , works while, goes funny again. ideas? thanks.

it won't work lying flat in hand, needs upright believe.
