Which Graphics program for my new MBP?

i've got new macbook pro, first intel machine , wondering if can suggest best "graphics" program me use. i'm no expert , vaguely know way around adobe photoshop cs worried it'll run quite (under rosetta) on mbp... or myth? i'm trying keep new machine 'clean' possible rather not installing many apps. need image resizing, touching-up photos, re-colouring stuff, creating basic images websites, text-based graphics/logos etc (i bet you'll tell me use illustrator of stuff never quite got hang of it).

should install cs on here or recommend try universal/intel such gimp or gimpshop? i've got old version of photoshop elements never liked compared full version, rather not buy latest 1 of that, , cost of cs3 seems bit much.

gimpshop good? or cs run okay on here?

i find cs2 usable, not fast. can stall frustratingly @ times and, in general, feels more emulated than, office fine once starts. cs3 perfect...
