i having problems wireless on new 24" alu imac. have installed linux (ubuntu) on laptop , having difficulties wireless on reset wireless router default, ie no wep password etc. allowed me easier connect it, whilst in setup stage.
got wireless working on ubuntu , decided make whole system little more safe, wanted wep encryption. when came change router settings want have had real problems reconnecting mac. doesn't connect when boot up, everytime goes power-safe (sleep) type mode wireless disconnects. has done this, never problem had click on airport , reconnect. however, have reboot mac in order connect again.
it's annoying me how £1500 machine struggling wep password, , crappy laptop open source operating system connecting fine!
also, wife says iphoto has been crashing lot recently, had itunes myself!! must say, in first few months of having mac isn't enjoyable thought. (and i'm not particularly complainer either!! ha)
software date there nothing can there!
ideas people??
okay, okay, okay... please slow down. you've thrown out lot of information here, you've left out of useful details...
- kind of router?
- 802.11g or 802.11n, 2.4ghz or 5ghz?
- have use wep or can use real standard wpa?
- network mac filtered?
- did mac in time before itunes , iphoto started crashing?
- has changed physically in or near home causin change in wireless interference? have tried other channels?
kind of on place. if really, didn't mac (use delocalizer or monolingual, or install apps modify basic system behavior), sounding may have kind of hardware issue or possibly corrupt install of os x. kinds of errors not typical.
guideline, should expect...
- in absence of interference, connecting , maintaining wep should not issue (as odious wep is). assuming network on preferred networks list , password saved on imac, imac should disconnect wireless automatically when sleeps (because turns wifi card off), should automatically reconnect without intervention on wake (it may take couple of seconds, should less 5 seconds getting desktop, in situation).
- itunes pretty rock solid. can't remember last time crashed it.
- iphoto crashes bit more often, pretty rare. more once every week or 2 under heavy use odd me.
