Movie Length Distortion--Is 10 mins But Only Shows 1 Min

hi everyone,
have movie (.mpg format--i don't have original) 10 minutes plays first minute. it's there, because on windows media player can move time slider ahead , goes different scene, can watch >1 minute. example, if let movie play on own, @ 30 seconds mark show first 30 seconds of movie. if place play slider @ 30 seconds, shows clip @ 5 minutes, play 30 seconds (because file says it's 1 minute long).

how can restore movie?

i've tried putting in imovie , window movie marker, both interpret clip being 1 minute long.
