Maps not loading could be java issue?

i running:
mac osx 10.4.10
firefox 2.0.0.7
java j2se 5.0
, run updater every week.

i've been on mac awhile, 2 months ago started java problems websites not loading fully. seems sites google maps, when entering , address, page continues "loading", never loads. have found true other pages well, portions there should pictures, don't load.

believe java issue, have tried opening 1 website in ie , got :
java.lang.noclassdeffounderror

when running applet launcher same response.

can help?

 

what mean when said opened site in ie? how safari fare?
