Recent software update seems to have changed requirement for microphones

hi, have late 2006 imac (2.16 core 2 duo/2gb ram). @ present, i
on 10.4.10 updates applied. heavy user of skype
, use regular headset (ones green , red jacks). used to
work , have done multi-hour conf-calls via skypes and
hear me via headset

few weeks ago, observed wasn't getting audio input on
line-in , replacing headsets wouldn't work either.

same headsets worked on pc's or if use a
harmonyexpress usb audio stick

http://www.miglia.com/harmonyexpress/index.html

tried testing other late 2006 imac's various headsets
, showed same behaviour observed via test

go system preferences->sound->input

speak headset , don't see level indicator move at
all. switch built-in microphone , you'll see level indicator move

called in applecare , logic board replaced problem
still persists

did recent software update change sensitivity of line-in
jack require line level signal instead of working microphone
level

regards, yusuf

i having same problem logitech notebook premium headset. using on xp machine works fine, when plug in audio line in of imac 24" 2.4ghz, not work @ all.

however, if refer user manual in apple website, says port self-powered microphone..mine not. so, not know if problem.

thanks.
