Using a Y-splitter for audio

this may not right area post in, i'm not sure else quite fits.

i've got imac , moved yamaha p120 digital piano office. since have nice speakers imac, want use them piano (its internal speakers aren't great). going through line-in on imac not option...it's laggy , inconvenient. have couple headphone y-adapters...so 1 end go speakers, , other 2 go imac , piano, respectively.

question using y-adapter. bad of electronics involved? have friend electrical engineer, , says shouldn't it. reasoning imac , piano both pushing out signals (power), , y-adapter turns 1-way street three-way traffic jam. says since output signal coming imac go both other ends on adapter, damage on ports on piano designed output , not input. same true, says, if piano outputting audio , tries go headphone port on imac. (just verify, indeed true of y-adapters. not discriminate input signal goes. goes 2 didn't come from.)

now, yes, electrical engineer, he's kind of old-school , ultra-paranoid stuff this, why want second opinion here. i'd appreciate if has definite knowledge this.

using y-cables typically results in crappy sound due impedance mismatch (caused using y-cables "mix" audio signals)…

@ least, build passive mixer set of cables. cost: ~$20

or better yet, buy 4-channel audio mixer. they're cheap these days. cost: ~$20
