USB port and CD not showing up on iMac

i running os x 10.4.1 on imac intel core2duo. if try , use usb flash drive save or cd (blank or recorded), neither 1 showing on desktop. ran disk utility verify , showed disk okay. what's up? used work flawlessly.
 

if mean they're not displayed icons on desktop, check finder>preferences>general , make sure checkboxes checked want displayed
