Confused - Listening to songs on iPhone does NOT trigger last played/last skipped?

thanks reading this. have smart playlist several "rules". 1 rule playlist not include songs "last played" within 1 month. likewise, playlist not include songs "last skipped" within 1 month. (in other words, don't want hear song has popped during last month, regardless of whether listened or skipped it.)

what's weird "last played" , "last skipped" not reflect times have played/skipped song on iphone. supposed way? plays on iphone not register in itunes? why that?

i know fact data gets updated when sync, including play count, etc....
