US Student studying abroad in UK (cell phone help)

i not sure else put thread. please move if appropriate.

looking cell phone can use in uk, when travel across europe. hoping might able advice non-commital (pay-as go) /short commitment (6 months or less) cell phone plan. want pretty basic plan, if text messaging included, nice. have looked around little bit @ providers orange, o2, virgin mobile, t-mobile. there else should at?

there next semester, , plan on traveling across europe quite bit. hoping find wont expensive can use call room mates/ other people traveling with.

europe uses gsm networks exclusively. frequency bands there different uses. way around 'unlocked quad band' cell phone. work in both europe , appropriate sim card. in europe common able purchase prepaid sim cards work in different countries - or groups of countries. unfortunately cell phone providers have locked systems , sim cards. technically possible have unlocked quad band cell phone , carrier sim card plus european carrier(s) sim card. swap out sim card(s) move around. if search 'unlocked cell phones' find several sites might started in right direction. solution might purchase 'disposable' cell phone once in england.

How to best wire an entire house mac...(I want a touch screen in my bathroom)

so here's basic idea- have 2 floor apartment , want have total access media @ times. here thoughts on want , how i'm guess done, need advice... watching movies/divx/etc macmini plugged hdtv . mini serve primary machine in apartment. stream videos external hd bay connected airport extreme. control of machine wireless computer concealed tinted glass. itunes direct connection macmini surround receiver first floor. itunes stream airport express base stations upstairs , on terrace, including bathrooms. control of system problem prefer keep on primary machine downstairs, interested in 2 things. if wanted change music playing, don't want have go downstairs, nor want have separate machine control upstairs. investigating touch screens, or using macbook when upstairs or on terrace. there way gain control of macmini on network using different machines in house? program: http://www2.smarttech.com/st/en-us/products/synchron...
