1G 2GB Nano = dead?

my dad has 1g 2gb black nano bought in december of 2005. hardly uses it, , never leaves 1 spot while it's being used (no running, dropping, moving around etc.).

when went use other day, couldn't turn on. figured battery died since low last time used , hadn't been charged since (has happened before).

thing not anything. plugging usb, wall charger, , car charger nothing @ all. no charging or battery icon on screen. left charging wall charger overnight in case dead display icon (wall charger confirmed working on ipod).

resetting nothing. doesn't plugged usb. system profiler doesn't see connected usb.

after trying figured open , see going on battery. it's 3.7v battery in there , putting out 4v (normal read little high) according tester, it's not dead. checked every pin poke on dock connector continuity on main board , seemed fine.

ideas on wrong thing? hardly ever used. buying new logic board isn't worth seem expensive used 1g nano, or more expensive places.

any chance it's screen & backlight that's dead?
