Whats needed for editing HD video?

im looking buy first mac, watched 20 minute long video on apple.com new ilife 08 , love features. iphoto , imovie attracted me. have 2 young children , love pictures , videos in order...

here question have. dont want spend on $1k on new computer. couple reasons, 1 dont want spend money... lol , seems computers prices drop , new things come out often, spending more seems silly me, when in 6 months "old school"...

so, budget of around $1k or less... options narrowed down considerably.. here want new mac

1. edit photos
2. edit video (i have hd video camera thats acvhd, havent messed editing yet, read editing hd video requires pretty hefty computer setup)
3. able use windows when needed. have few programs (simple things) arent mac compatible, id able switch , forth

other 3 things, basic use of computer web surfing , other basic things use computer for... concern above 3 things able , smoothly.

found mini might work me, , here specs.

2.16 core 2 duo processor
2 gb ram
80gb hard drive
dual layer superdrive,
installed apple certified technician
os 10.4.10
ilife '08
iwork '08!


so, 2.16 , 2gb memory along mini's graphic card work me? know fine editing pictures, video im concerned about... also, im not on windows thing. know people have on macbook pros... work on too?
 

the mac mini right computer you. when first got video editing, used imac g3 crt screens 190 mb of memory , 80 gb drive installed. today machines under $100 on ebay. suppose hd requires lot more processing , video types such acvhd. decompressing , compressing requires heavy cpu requirements today. putting video using old dv cameras using firewire , exporting out tape requires little processor speed.

Mini-DVI to DVI-I?

How to best wire an entire house mac...(I want a touch screen in my bathroom)

so here's basic idea- have 2 floor apartment , want have total access media @ times. here thoughts on want , how i'm guess done, need advice... watching movies/divx/etc macmini plugged hdtv . mini serve primary machine in apartment. stream videos external hd bay connected airport extreme. control of machine wireless computer concealed tinted glass. itunes direct connection macmini surround receiver first floor. itunes stream airport express base stations upstairs , on terrace, including bathrooms. control of system problem prefer keep on primary machine downstairs, interested in 2 things. if wanted change music playing, don't want have go downstairs, nor want have separate machine control upstairs. investigating touch screens, or using macbook when upstairs or on terrace. there way gain control of macmini on network using different machines in house? program: http://www2.smarttech.com/st/en-us/products/synchron...
