External HD Problems on Startup

my faithful lacie d2 drive has started behaving unfaithfully. here's situation:
when first turn on computer (the drive starts automatically without having switched on), or when first connect drive through firewire, seems have trouble getting started. spins second, down. continues doing while, stops without mounting. if shut down , leave connected while (about 10 mins) , turn on again, starts work fine.
ideas might up? i've used several different computers , same thing.

in advance.
 

any ideas, anyone?

Mini-DVI to DVI-I?

How to best wire an entire house mac...(I want a touch screen in my bathroom)

so here's basic idea- have 2 floor apartment , want have total access media @ times. here thoughts on want , how i'm guess done, need advice... watching movies/divx/etc macmini plugged hdtv . mini serve primary machine in apartment. stream videos external hd bay connected airport extreme. control of machine wireless computer concealed tinted glass. itunes direct connection macmini surround receiver first floor. itunes stream airport express base stations upstairs , on terrace, including bathrooms. control of system problem prefer keep on primary machine downstairs, interested in 2 things. if wanted change music playing, don't want have go downstairs, nor want have separate machine control upstairs. investigating touch screens, or using macbook when upstairs or on terrace. there way gain control of macmini on network using different machines in house? program: http://www2.smarttech.com/st/en-us/products/synchron...
