Buying external hard drive advice

i have old imac lcd (700 mhz g4) running os 10.3.9 , 40gb hard drive full. remember thinking huge , i'd never fill sucker.:rolleyes:

plan on keeping baby web surfer , getting laptop real soon. i'm thinking might in best interest external hard drive in meantime. back-up , space. think photos, music, , photoshop files make bulk of current filled hard drive.

anyway, been reading bit on forums , not sure how comfortable buying enclosure , putting hard drive in there myself. recommendations me? brand, size, type, etc?

appreciate if can steer me straight because new territory me.
 

i prefer using seagate hdds- have had luck them. second, recommend getting enclosure supports firewire. :)

Mini-DVI to DVI-I?

How to best wire an entire house mac...(I want a touch screen in my bathroom)

so here's basic idea- have 2 floor apartment , want have total access media @ times. here thoughts on want , how i'm guess done, need advice... watching movies/divx/etc macmini plugged hdtv . mini serve primary machine in apartment. stream videos external hd bay connected airport extreme. control of machine wireless computer concealed tinted glass. itunes direct connection macmini surround receiver first floor. itunes stream airport express base stations upstairs , on terrace, including bathrooms. control of system problem prefer keep on primary machine downstairs, interested in 2 things. if wanted change music playing, don't want have go downstairs, nor want have separate machine control upstairs. investigating touch screens, or using macbook when upstairs or on terrace. there way gain control of macmini on network using different machines in house? program: http://www2.smarttech.com/st/en-us/products/synchron...
