Buying an iMac or Macbook - Tons of questions!

hi, plan on purchasing new imac or macbook use while in college (just started freshman year). i've been pc user whole life, current desktop 6 years old , need upgrade. plus, i've been interested in mac quite time (already love ipod). i'll using machine im/videochat, email, web browsing, music, possible photo/video editing personal use, no gaming or professional apps. i've been reading forums part of research on 2 products, have bunch of questions/concerns i'd with. i'll break down between each machine...

imac
-is screen bad? i'd going 20-inch model , don't think i'd have problems sunlight causing glare on screen based on room i'll using computer in. however, i've heard people complaining other things such viewing angle , like? what's deal screen?
-are there issues machine getting hot or making noise?
-i'm concerned slot-loading drive. i've heard stories of drive being super sensitive, discs getting caught, etc. cd burner/dvd burner efficient?
-is there significant difference in speed 2.0 ghz processor vs. 2.4 ghz? also, low end model's videocard sufficient? know it's fine i'll doing computer, don't want out of date after year...
-i've heard people complaining keyboard well. easy adjust after using standard pc keyboard long? also, can charge ipod/connect digital camera through keyboard's usb port, or what?
-how internal speakers?

macbook
leaning towards imac because commute school , have no breaks between classes semester, don't need bring laptop school. can't see myself using laptop in of classes semester, although things change in future semesters , portability nice thing have. plus, macbooks in same pricerange low-end imac. if macbook, i'd have hooked external display, keyboard, , mouse while @ home. here questions regarding macbook...
-again, glossy display troublesome? if i'm using machine in different places, don't want have worry trying find right spot sit there isnt huge glare on screen.
-is integrated graphics card okay i'll using computer for?
-are there issues machine overheating, if have closed while hooked external display?
-what's realistic battery life like?
-is possible upgrade harddrive on macbook, or better off getting external hd?


have general questions macs:
-are harddrive partitions created bootcamp permanent? can eliminate partition without having reformat whole drive? also, how parallels/vmfusion work? drive have partitioned programs well?
-i bit concerned on fact apple updates products frequently. going feel out of date within 2 years, or computer serve me long gateway pc has?

hi,i hope can little bit of points. give little bit of info uni student studying graphic design , have macbook 1.8cd high speed pc based @ home serious work.

have had macbook under year , ok feel out of date , want mbp machine awesome, still runs dream , still need involves alot of photoshop , similar apps, when im @ uni have hooked upto 1 of 23" displays screen real estate.

glossy screen find nice, ok not perfect work thats external , home pc for. glare in situations honest ever sit have enough room adjust or comftable not see other screen's. glossy awesome films , programs.

not able comment on imac due not having 1 can specs price great problem can justify price lack of portability said have option hook laptop upto external componants.

oh yea 1 last thing both machines able fly thru tasks have listed no issues ever if poor little macbook can steam thru photoshop , illustrator im sure can handle app's
