i installed iweb '08 , ran latest iweb '08 software update before opening program. using 24 in. core2duo imac running mac os x 10.4.10.
next double-clicked on domain icon in user/library/application support/iweb folder , waited while program converted existing website had been created iweb '06 , published .mac account.
looked fine in iweb. added graphic page , pressed publish button. after long delay while entire site uploaded, visited site , discovered dozens of graphic elements no longer visible. empty boxes appear , disappear each of missing items supposed appear. if item hyperlink, link still works, phantom-like, if click on spot item should be.
also, there no longer drop shadows. reflections, rotations , transparencies still function, however.
problems described persist regardless of browser or platform used. checked using firefox, safari , i.e. on mac , i.e. under windows.
ran tests, creating page items importing graphics media browser, dragging finder, copying , pasting, , creating new shapes shape menu @ bottom of iweb window. image items appear in iweb, but, aside shapes, not show @ after publishing site.
shape primitives appear online. transparency, reflection, rotation work on shapes, drop shadows not. shadows appear in iweb window, disappear when page published.
please visit what's left of site at: http://www.peterweisz.com , see damage yourself. can @ screen shots here compare how page portions in iweb 08 compared how looks after publishing:

fortunately, have back-up copy of old iweb 06 domain file. short of de-installing iweb 08 , reinstalling iweb 06, can remedy problem?
evidently iweb '08 broken bigtime. buggiest piece of software ive seen apple release in decades. guess were paying iphone tax , thats real shame.

try this
had problem similar yours. unfortunately, drop shadow issue isn't fixed browsers other safari 3.. make copy of iweb 1 sites file.. on copy, rename extention .sites2 instead of .sites.
then, double click on open.. iweb needs update.. let it, click save when it's done, , quit iweb. re-open , disappearing image problem should gone.. if change theme though, should keep images, put them in odd places if you've moved them normal theme place.
complain apple missing drop shadows though.
