Has WD's reliability improved since the early '00s?

for years (mostly in late 90s/early '00s) bought consumer grade wd drives because bb/cc/cusa sold , didn't know places newegg. inevitably these drives fail...thankfully while on warranty, if can thankful drive failing. switched seagate, which, knock on wood, held beautifully until didn't need them.

i'm happy w/ seagate, wds bench faster, caviar se16 , re2. how reliability on these drives. going last me 3-4 years video editing or boot drive or can expect them die in 1-2?
