hi - i'm looking little current mac:
have 3 year old 15 inch 1.33 ghz pb has been great computer. (and rather rapidly) battery has had progressively shorter life, , now, if unplugged, runs 5 minutes on battery, computer shuts down no warning. there few odd things this:
1) computer not sleep, shuts down
2) battery indicator there still 15 minutes of battery life left before shuts down
3) after shutdown, if press indicator light on battery itself, 4 of 5 green leds still light up
i'm wondering if dead battery, or wrong how charge computer thinks in battery (ie. sort of power management issue). #2 , #3 make me lean towards other dead battery.
things have tried far solve problem:
1) pram reset
2) pmu reset (caveat: model have, supposed ppower off, ctrl-option-shift-power, wait 5 seconds, power on - have tried several times, no indicator has happened - not make noise (not sure if should) , when re-boot, date , time , else same (and reading forums batteries , pmu resets, people report clearing of date , time).
3) taking out , re-seating battery
so, guess have 3 questions:
1) dead battery or power management problem?(or other problem)
2) should expect pmu reset clear date , time? there way check if pmu has been reset?
3) other suggestions how work out problem? i'm bit loathe go genius bar, since applecare expired 2 weeks ago (but not before had new screen put in!)
in advance help!
matthew
is battery 3 years old, too? if so, sounds it's time new battery! wouldn't expect battery last longer 2 , half years or so.
on related note, however, i'm having similar problem in powerbook cuts off before going sleep...however, have less-than 1 year old battery still going strong. battery lasts long time...but still cuts off without sleeping. i've tried resetting pram , pmu no avail..
