What will Apple/ATT do re non-ATT SIM usage?

been reading heated thread on @ ars degenerated f-bombs , personal attacks regarding apple may stop users using non-att sims in iphones. . .so thought start 1 here.

ok, thoughts on issue:

1. apple gets $ att each contract want encourage usage of att focused on selling lots of iphones.
2. in long run, apple's goal of 10m phones (and beyond) perhaps reachable 'any network' phone.
3. while apple brick phones (permanently breaking them) won't users have hacked use non-att sims haven't done legally wrong:
- aren't stealing - paying non-att cell co service
- hacker hasn't violated contract. when buy iphone apple haven't entered contract
- while not lawyer, there seems specific exemptions in dmca unlocking phones
4. since (3), if permanently brick phones need repair them under warranty (or sued if didn't)
5. how many hackers there really? 10k? 50k? don't think there enough warrant defcon 1 action.

suspect apple provide rolling updates fix holes hackers have found, report att doing best, , make better software work consistently , reliably on non-hacked phone.

interesting point

"the hacker hasn't violated contract. when buy iphone apple haven't entered contract "

when first hacking news started come out there quote att person saying purchase of phone resulted in contact att service. continued purchaser obligated att service.

real interest if going go down road, never happend.
