Partitioning new iMac?

i'm order imac leopard available , wondering if it's idea split hard drive(500gb) in 2 partitions? reason want move home folder 1 partition , keep stuff there, , have os x , apps on other.

way, if screw system , have reinstall or if want fresh upgrade sometime in future, won't have think files on "home" partition.

read moving home folder here:
http://www.macworld.com/2002/06/secrets/osxsecrets/

safe that? or can screw up? , @ beneficial time machine can take care of backup work might want when installing new system "from scractch"?

recommendations on partitioning , home folder location?

thanks:)

its fine this. have 2 partitions 1 system , other 1 data partition. system partition has on except docs , music etc on data partition. did can defrag , cache smaller 20 gb system partition make os spped , boot times fast.
macworld article linked if run out of space on hard drive , want move home folder has documents one. since have 500gb hard drive not need this.
suggest leave home folder on main boot partition contains caches , applicaiton files in library essential make system faster. move pictures, docs, movies, music folders second partition.
have done make original docs, music etc folders in home directory invisible , made new ones on second partition , dragged documents , media respective folders.
suggest using ipartition non-destructive partition tool. can make partitions using disk utility have while not booted main partition , erases partitions after.
