How come my mail won't send when I'm on a different network?

this (hopefully) simple question. configured apple mail work gmail , comcast accounts, works great when @ home. if go other places, friends house or different wifi network, mail bounces when try send , message this. there configuration can change won't happen?

to keep eye on possible spammers own network, isps not let send mail through other own smtp address. best workaround either try using port 587 instead, or use isp's own smtp address.
