has done tests measure gig-port speed can achieve new imac?
did tests on old fast-ethernet emac, , 40 mbs instead of theoretical limit of 100mbs.
want buy new imac , nas storage of video , pictures, not sure if should go gigabit ethernet nas or 10/100.
if imac test port speed limit iperf great...

firstly, remember network speeds quoted in gigabits, not gigabytes, 100mbps network port has theoretical maximum of 12.5mbps (note capital b , lower-case b mean different things). types of ethernet have packet overhead, source, destination , type information added each packet of data before transmission receiving devices can identify reading. buffer on network interface going have effect on performance, type of device connecting , whether connection @ full or half-duplex.

gigabit ethernet on imac has theoretical maximum of 125mbps, you'll never anywhere close that. 85mbps absolute best can hope for.
