1080i60 on iMovie via HV20

i've been importing new hd video (from hv20) imovie. these family videos store digitally on hard drive (and backup). reuse same hd dv tapes.

questions:
1. lose quality storing video in digital format? if want save space , convert material mp4, lose quality? mpeg steamclip decent converter? it's i've been using because it's faster quicktime , appears use 4 cores more efficiently (~350% vs. ~250%).

2. lose quality importing media imovie? imovie recognize @ 60fps? should instead purchase fcp , use instead? have higher quality video fcp?

3. what, if anything, should interlacing?

thanks!

you might want think buying more tapes it's more cost effective , more reliable using hdds.

if transcode make files smaller you'll lose quality.

no
yes, (1080i 60 fields, not frames, per second fyi)
if/when imovie and/or fce stop meeting needs
no

i wouldn't worry if watch finished videos on computer can de-interlace them if interlacing bugs @ cost of image quality (which may or may not noticeable you).
