College in Europe and the ETH Zurich

the other day, visiting europe , had chance visit swiss federal institute in zurich (eth-z), many consider swiss equivalent of mit.

eth-z seemed cool , admittedly few interactions students, seemed place far less stressful american counterpart. interestingly enough, though, institute has numerous alumni have gone off win nobel prizes.

anyways, question follows: competitive in europe -- not eth -- stressful american counterparts?

it's different.

when studied in germany last year, @ first thought - oh wow, far less stressful! class took place less per week, no homework, , more indepedent work , freedom.

when came time exams , write papers, hausarbeiten, found more stressful. often, 1 grade - 1 exam, or 1 paper, constitute grade entire course. , have exams determine whether or not can continue course of study , can oral exams lasting hour many professors. took 15 minute oral exams 1 professor credit classes , stressed me out enough. hausarbeiten don't have deadlines , unless you're getting stuff done without nagging you, doesn't happen , don't credit class.

hope gives idea.
