the inquirer reports on rumors circulating around tokyo apple's interest in high end penryn processors upcoming mac pros.
according rumors, apple has "pre-booked" top (3.2ghz) penryn bins year, leaving "minimum quantities" other big vendors. 3.2ghz penryn xeon ("harpertown") processors offer faster 1600mhz bus , 12mb of l2 cache. quad-core processors provide apple upgrade path current mac pro line has not seen major upgrades since august of 2006. apple did introduce 8-core mac pro in april of 2007, left existing models untouched.
incorporating these new processors, apple increase top speed mac pro 3.2ghz 1600mhz front side bus (up 1333 mhz). not first time apple have "exclusive" use of otherwise unreleased intel processor. introduction of 8-core mac pro used 3.0ghz xeon chip otherwise unannounced @ time. similarly, penryn xeon processors not expected reach 3.2ghz based on early reports.
