i bought desktop way in 2001, 2 weeks before "quicksilver" model released (which why read rumor sites). felt relatively out of date within year, , started tax processor-wise within 2 or 3 years. taxed ram-wise within year, upgraded, taxed again within year, upgraded, , gave in , bought cheap ram max 1.5 gb (from 896 mb had it).
question comes reading several threads people have said effect of, "i bought mac pro , though it's year-old machine, don't think i'll need upgrade long time."
question i'm posing is, current mac pros far ahead of game won't seem obsolete in few years, g4 desktop did me? or people don't see needs increasing today on next few years won't need oomph? or combination, or different?
perhaps should note consider myself power user, having large java app running 24/7 (azureus), normal web , e-mail stuff, heavy photoshop/dreamweaver use, using aperture or lightroom, playing simcity , civilization, watch lots of movies, , run own command-line java stuff i'm working on multi-threading multiple cores research (astronomy stuff).
i'm not sure whether you'll feel mac pro not uses in few years, ram expandable 32gb seems incredible me. there plenty of hard drive bays. me, mac pro last me @ least 5 years, no power user.
also, why didn't upgrade processor on g4 powermac if getting long in tooth?
