I did something bad...

now know it's bad mess around system files. let's messing around in netinfo manager , managed change "short name" within application. when try change back, says not have permission so. same happens when trying login accounts tab in system prefs or install app of kind; know, usual mac os x security routine...

please tell me there way fix this. have log in via root?

appreciated. thanks! :)

hm, guess root wouldn't hurt. thing is, if don't have root turned on, need authorize admin name+pw, you'll in quite catch-22 there...

if root on, go ahead. don't need mention you'd better more careful when logged in root, can screw more stuff :)

curious, when asks username , password, using old 1 or new short name changed to? try both, , try full name.

edit: happens lot of us, btw. curiosity fun can lead things (it sure has me). long learned it. nothing bad seems have happened, worst case can , reinstall os x, that's last resort.
