based on nature of these forums , dedicated programming section, i've gained impression there fair few people involved in industry here.
wondering how enjoy it.
before summer ends, have make couple of decisions regarding want do. before pretty sure wanted programming because of lack of familiarity scene, have become apprehensive.
study ict @ moment doesn't offer lot of experience in programming since exposure microsoft excel , access.
each of involved in industry , like?
live in uk i'm sure details other areas well.
tl;dr material, maybe?
i have summer internship programmer , love company, hate programming i'm kind of anxious internship on cause if see line of java code, i'm going go postal on someone. i'm studying network engineer, offered programming job (since have bit of background in it) , took it, way foot in door (and i'm guaranteed networking job when graduate). love company, love job , environment, not fan of work do.
if in fact programming (i don't know how) , aren't familiar it, familiar it. if school doesn't offer courses in it, there plenty of books out there learn on own. or, google it, you'll find free tutorials. taught myself php several years ago (i liked programming bit more in day
) , i'd i'm pretty @ it, , i've never spent dime on book. internet has ton of info learn.
far languages go, they're similar. once learn one, can pick others. c/c++ if want down low level stuff , work , mess memory management, java if you're lazy me , want vm take care of you.
since can ask 10 different companies language use , 10 different answers, it's hard 1 start with. said, started php, fun, had first "formal" programming training 1 year of c++ in college. had semester of "java dummies", "dummy" not dumb person, dumb chimpanzee, because class basic , watered down, , once learned java specific syntax in first couple weeks either didn't show class or showed , surfed internet entire time , still got on 100% in class (extra credit ftw). @ job, i'm doing java , doing fine, though amount of training i've had in java nothing. google has found answered questions i've had![]()
