iMac Migration Questions

i have new imac want migrate data mini to. still have g4 tower never finished migrating that's story. think have 4 total drives between mini, ministack, g4 drive, , 2nd g4 internal.

know how use target disk mode w/ fw or network (ethernet or airport) access data.

used .mac syncing bring address book, ical, mail, safari bookmarks, , keychains across mini new imac. , know can copy itunes library across imac drive , copy library files on bring playlists, etc over. not sure if problem apple tv or iphone, think data contained in library file.

migration assistant worth using @ all, , have control on copies , doesn't. need brought on seamlessly iphoto library. didn't know if simple itunes. drag library data across pictures folder , launch. keyboard command set rebuilding iphoto , itunes libraries upon launch? option-command+launch app? , do?

suggestions great. wish guide best way manually migrate data. don't want full migration b/c data not organized want docs , movies , such more piecemeal apps want of, not all.

thanks.

the "full" migration effective--it makes new user folder old one. which, sound of it, isn't want.

moving iphoto library easy you're imagining--as long permissions on copied library correct, it'll work fine. may need "point" iphoto copied library (can't remember how, think hold down option when launch it), that's it. no rebuilding necessary--if needs rebuilding because of newer version of iphoto, that'll happen automatically.

did you're describing when installed tiger , wanted take advantage of chance clean out user folder. copy itunes , iphoto libraries, documents necessary, copy address book , mail manually (i copied relevant files library folder rather using .mac), , picked through user library folder , copied things knew necessary--some prefs, mail, few bits of application support (though of gets reinstalled application automatically if it's missing), , else recognized being important.

ran bit , made sure wanted.

little time consuming (maybe 3 or 4 hours of work), clean out lot of old , unnecessary prefs , such.
