Debating a purchase

i've wanted mac off , on while, , in "on" phase , closer pulling trigger, wanted research , opinions first...

first , foremost, techie type, built own home machines, , used windows last decade.
use pcs for-web browsing, chat, multimedia (photos picasa, video adobe premiere nothing in last year or so). burn dvd movies, backups.

obviously, web , chat basic , isn't going issue mac or pc. wanted know how iphoto stacks compared picasa, , compares adobe premiere, , how stacks up? running adobe on amd athlon 64x2, 2gb ram , pretty app run when working on video/converting etc.

looking @ mac book, closer $1000 price range, figured 2 gb ram tho , superdrive, i've noticed people saying mb can struggle video compared mbp since there's lack of video ram. video editing isn't think i'll more couple times month, unless it's unbearably awful....

other thought had, travel lot, using macbook travel movie player, instead of portable dvd player....i figured ok , screen it, figured i'd ask anyways.

other question had-if purchase apple or amazon or wherever-and don't mb or whichever choose-is there return policy/trial policy?

 

i haven't used picassa, iphoto good. video editing, sound imovie best you, try out when computer, , if isn't enough buy final cut express. video editing not problem because of lack of didicated vram, make difference if playing games, or doing 3d work.

Mini-DVI to DVI-I?

New iMac here - LOVING the Mighty Mouse

i have mbp, , talked wife getting imac after dell (she loathed machine, made sell easy) crapped bed. when deciding on bluetooth mouse mbp, passed on mighty mouse wireles becasue of review here seemed negative. ordered corded version imac came friday. long story short, have been using mm , found quite enjoyable! in fact prefer logitech v220 im using now. found out have tendency lift left finger off botton when using normal 2 button mouse. made use of mm natural me. absolute best part of mm freaking scroll ball. orgasmic use!! l o v e mechanical smoothness , feel of ball in motion. using app steermouse able fine tune puppy perfect. on fence mm, let me assure pretty awesome, , person ultra picky point of ocd mice.   good review! imac prepared shipping, should coming in few days. i'm going using standard wired mm comes it, positive feedback on it. worried going horrible,...
