Icon files don't have extensions - how am I supposed to edit them?

hi,

i've got gripe os x - well, new gripe add list. i've been downloading , applying new icons couple days. i'd edit 1 create custom icon. tried opening icon file in photoshop, no go. checked extension enabling 'show file extensions' in finder preferences. sure, file extensions show up, none on icons. believe they're png images, when rename them pngs photoshop still can't read them. when put fiel on usb drive try on windows machine, file shows 0kb, extension-less file.

what's going on? i'd appreciate input on one, i'm sure there's explanation out there.

zip , upload 1 of icons you're having trouble with.
