Are matched sticks of RAM necessary?

i recall in day when used overclocking on pc/desktop side of things, people used swear matched ram kits dual channel/overclocking stability.

issue when trying upgrade mbp 4gb of ram? overclocking out of question i'm wondering if there slower performance or possibly stability issues.

reason ask because price differential between buying 2 sticks of 2gb of ram separately compared 2x2gb kit (depending on you're shopping).

see frys pricing

matching sticks dual channel using 2x1gb , 1x1gb not affect dual channel much.

there have been few independent tests using 3gb ram , outcome "i wish had done sooner" heh

i'd go 2x2gb ram, you'll love how fast mb/mbp runs.
